Visiting the Family Room

Ronald McDonald Family Room extends the mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities Manitoba in its 3,500 square foot space located within the walls of the HSC Children's Hospital in Winnipeg.

The Family Room is open to all families with pediatric patients every day of the week, currently operating at modified hours, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The area is a warm, comforting place where you can rest and have a break from the hospital environment.

The Family Room may offer the following comforts of home:

  • Bathroom with a shower
  • Laundry facilities
  • Full kitchen for cooking and dining
  • Living room with television
  • Children's play area
  • Craft activity area
  • Three sleeping rooms available for families (referral required)
  • Napping lounge available for families

Located within HSC Children's Hospital, just a short walk from PICU and NICU, the Ronald McDonald Family Room can be found at Yellow Deer Zone, Level 3 (CE-3 - 840 Sherbrook Street). The Family Room is one more way we help keep families together.

Staying at the Family Room

Three sleeping rooms are available on a priority basis to families in PICU, NICU, and other areas of HSC Children’s Hospital, if space permits.

Sleeping rooms are reserved for families with the most critical needs and cannot be booked in advance or for any length of time. There is no charge to use the sleeping rooms. To receive a daily referral, please talk to the charge nurse or social worker in your hospital unit.

Cart with a Heart Program

Cart with a Heart is a mobile hospitality cart program provided by RMHC Manitoba and operated out of the Ronald McDonald Family Room. It offers coffee, refreshments, and other donated items to patients and families. The program brings comfort to caregivers who are at the bedside of pediatric patients. The Cart is operated by RMHC Manitoba volunteers and visits the Women's Hospital NICU and all units in HSC Children’s Hospital weekly, alternating between Mondays and Fridays.

RMHC Manitoba serves families on Treaty 1 and Treaty 5 lands, located on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Ojibway, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and the homeland of the Métis Nation.
